Non-radiating UAV detection and counteraction system

Wide use of UAVs for civil, special and military purposes causes an urgent need to develop a system for detection, identification and “targeted” suppression of UAVs.

One of the promising UAV detection areas is developing non-radiating radar systems using reflected signals of third-party transmitters (TV and radio stations, cellular communication stations, etc.). Such systems have been deployed by Germany (TwInvis) and Sweden (AULOS).

VIMPEL’S SYSTEM

  • detects aerial vehicles 24/7 regardless of weather conditions, covertly from radiotechnical or visual reconnaissance;
  • identifies aerial vehicle type/class;
  • generates target designations to electronic warfare stations.

SYSTEM COMPONENTS
  • receiving stations package detecting UAVs in their allocated zones;
  • jamming stations;
  • central data processing station that combines information from all receivers, controls the receivers and jamming stations;
  • local and remote system control.

UNIQUE SOLUTIONS
  • In-house software for:
    • target class identification by reflected signal frequency characteristics and motion parameters using AI elements.
    • suppression of jamming signals in the reflected signal reception channel;
    • adaptive correlation signal processing;
    • selection of optimal sounding signals from a group of available signals;
    • target trajectory tracking;
  • System configuration adaptation to the client’s requirements;
  • Possibility to use commercial or custom equipment.

COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGES

Compared to other systems developed in Germany (TwInvis), Sweden (AULOS), Russia etc., the system proposed by VIMPEL Interstate Corporation has unique features:

  • Multi-station structural principle that helps optimize the number of stations depending on the client’s requirements;
  • Self-learning intelligent target identification system;
  • The system is complemented with a remote dual-purpose emission source;
  • Stations may be implemented in maintenance-free, compact or covert versions;
  • Low power consumption enables use of independent power sources;
  • Low cost.

SYSTEM FEATURES
  • All-weather radar object detection and plotting of its trajectory in the covert non-radiating operation mode;
  • Possibility of implementation in a version protected against visual reconnaissance;
  • Detection of very small UAVs, including quadcopters, at a maximum range of 5 km;
  • Detection of medium-sized UAVs (with a maximum span of 1 m) at a maximum range of 10 km;
  • Surveillance modes: continuous sectoral or periodic circular;
  • Maximum space surveillance frequency 10 Hz;
  • Maximum range determination accuracy 10 m;
  • Maximum azimuth determination accuracy 2 deg.;
  • Maximum speed determination accuracy 1 m/s;
  • Number of simultaneously tracked targets — over 50;
  • Accuracy of measured object positioning against UTC scale — no worse than 1 m/s;
  • Possibility to determine UAV equipment emission frequencies and additional tracking using these signals;
  • Possibility of interfacing (data output) with the jamming station at the primary and/or secondary processing level.
